Understanding the Problem
In Canada, bullying remains a significant concern affecting children across schools, communities, and online platforms. Despite efforts to address this issue through anti-bullying policies and initiatives, many Canadian children continue to experience various forms of bullying, including physical, verbal, and cyberbullying. Research indicates that bullying can have profound adverse effects on children's mental health, academic performance, and overall well-being, highlighting the urgent need for effective interventions tailored to the Canadian context.
Research
In order to gain a better understanding of the current situation and struggles related to kids being bullied, we conducted a structured online survey consisting of 20 questions. The survey aimed to measure participants' perceptions, behaviors, and attitudes towards bullying. Participants were invited to take part in the survey online. Here are some of the key findings:
Key Findings
1.
Many kids and parents reported bullying happening often, showing it's a big problem that needs attention.
2.
Kids and parents said bullying made them feel sad, scared, and bad about themselves, showing it can really hurt people's feelings.
3.
Even though bullying happens a lot, kids and parents said they don't always tell someone about it because they're afraid or don't know who to talk to, showing there's a need for safer ways to report it.
4.
Kids and parents agreed that it's important to have things like education about bullying, support from friends, and counselors to help stop bullying and make things better.
User Persona
After conducting user research, we have identified one persona. This persona is a mother of two children who cares about her kids and is concerned about them facing bullies.
